MoFi Electronics SourcePoint 10 and SourcePoint 8 Loudspeakers: Andrew Jones' Innovative Designs

The SourcePoint 10, Andrew Jones' first design for MoFi Electronics, reportedly took more than 18 months to complete.

According to Jones, the SourcePoint 10 loudspeaker was totally custom-tooled and loaded with proprietary technology. It was also Jones' first 10-inch concentric driver design and his first two-way concentric speaker.

Jones was quick to release his second MoFi speaker, the new SourcePoint 8 ($2,750/pair), which was unveiled at the Axpona audio show after the R&D foundation had been created and the SourcePoint 10 had entered the market. The SourcePoint 8 is, as its name suggests, a scaled-down version of the SourcePoint 10, having an 8-inch concentric driver in place of a 10-inch.

In fact, it can be difficult to tell which SourcePoint 8 you're looking at in a picture because it resembles its bigger sibling so much. However, when they are side by side, the distinction is obvious.

The SourcePoint 8's cabinet is 18 by 11.4 by 13.2 inches in size, giving it nearly half the SourcePoint 10's cabinet volume. Jones explains that it made logical to reduce each cabinet dimension in accordance with the fact that the new driver's diameter is 80% smaller than the original. As a result, the new speaker is around 80% as tall, 80% wider, and 80% deeper as the original. Because of this reduction in size, the Mini-Me speaker can fit into more spaces than the SourcePoint 10 can.
